What Does BSD's Acquisition Mean for Our Customers?

CSI

For those customers who are unaware of CSI's acquisition of BSD, the press release covers the salient facts. CSI and BSD began talking about developing a closer working relationship at the 2009 CSI convention. Those talks gradually focused on the possibility of an acquisition, and a significant amount of time was subsequently spent on working out the details. Obviously, this was not a deal that anyone took lightly, so the roughly 16 months that elapsed between initial contact and final consummation involved many drafts and many conversations. For our users, the big question undoubtedly is:  How will this affect me?

The short answer is: In the short term, there should be virtually no effect. For the longer term, it should mean even better products and wider acceptance of our software within the industry.

CSI has been very impressed with BSD's technology, the growth in BSD's customer base over the 14 years BSD SpecLink has been on the market, and BSD's plans for the future. CSI also believes that BSD's newest product, BSD LinkMan-E, is the precursor to an industry-wide standard for BIM interoperability. From the very beginning of our discussions, therefore, CSI made it clear that its goal was not to replace BSD's management or revamp its lineup of products. On the contrary, one of CSI's requirements was that current management remain in place for a period of several years, working toward the technical and financial goals that the company has established.

Partnering more closely with CSI in the future, BSD will continue to act on its plans for the introduction of new products and the improvement of existing products. These goals are closely aligned with CSI’s goals of offering superior practice tools, developing industry standards,  and improving communications. Going forward, we will benefit from the strength and diversity of CSI, whose members come from virtually every sector of the construction industry.

The future looks bright for BSD, and we have every reason to believe that all our customers will benefit from our new relationship with CSI.
