Q. I want to move the software from one computer to another, but the access key won’t work. Why is that?
AThe access key you received when you installed the software is specific to the computer on which it was installed. To move the software to another computer, call Technical Support at 800-266-7732 for an Unpermit code before you remove the software from the first computer. You can have the software already installed on the new computer before you call, and we can generate a key for the new computer immediately.

QOur company has a Citrix server that allows our people to run software when they are traveling. Can we run BSD software this way?
A
Yes. On the Citrix server perform a standalone installation of SpecLink or CostLink/AE. You will need to get an Access Key for the server - call BSD Technical Support (800-266-7732) to discuss your options and to see if you will need to buy a key for the server, or if you have a license that you can move to the server at no cost.

Q. I have noticed that some sections have an Optional Checklist at the beginning. What is it, and how do I use it?
AThe checklist highlights the principal specifying decisions to be made in the section.  As you select applicable options in the checklist, SpecLink’s built-in links will pre-edit major portions of the text. Additional product options may remain to be selected, including optional text for submittals, quality assurance, reference standards, cross-references, and similar issues. To get a list of which sections have this option, you can print out our catalog listing from the CD or get it from our website at www.bsdsoftlink.com/speclink/catalogs/all_catalogs.htm. Any section with two plus signs to the right of the title includes a checklist.

Q. How do I set up two-sided printing?
A. If your printer allows for two-sided printing, make sure you have set the printer for this and that it is your default printer. Before printing the document from BSD SpecLink, go to the File menu and select “Page Setup.” Put a check mark in the box “Start document on odd page.” This will ensure that if you are printing multiple sections (or an entire project) that each section will start on an odd page number. You can choose to alternate the left- and right-hand portions of the header and footer text on alternate pages. This is useful in two-sided printing, to keep the page number or other important information on the outside corner of the page.

Q. I have a fill-in that I don’t need, but if I don’t enter something, brackets print. Is there a way around this?
AIf you don’t want or need anything in a fill-in, you can hide it. Enter the words None – N/A in the blank. Click outside the brackets. When you print, the fill-in will not print, and the spaces around it will close appropriately. (For example, if the fill-in is between two words and there is a space to either side of the fill-in, if you put None – N/A in the blank the blank will not print and only one space will print between the two words.)

Q. Can I generate a list of all the Manufacturers listed in my entire project?
A. Yes. A useful SpecLink+ feature is its ability to automatically generate “Requirements Reports”. One such report is the “Manufacturers Listed in Project” report. This report is organized by section and lists each manufacturer selected.

The Manufacturer Listing is unique in that it lists all text in the tagged paragraphs, allowing you to incorporate more detail (such as a manufacturer’s website, or contact information) into the report. All manufacturers in the master database are already tagged for this report. However, if you add a manufacturer to a section, you will need to tag that paragraph for the Manufacturer Listing report.

Use the following steps to tag a user added manufacturer:
1.    Make sure the Tag column is in view.
       a. Click on the View menu and select “Display Layout.”
       b. Click on “Tags.”
2.    With your cursor in the new paragraph, click the arrow on the “Tag” button in the Document panel toolbar.
3.    Click on the “ML – Manufacturer Listing” tag.

You should now see the “ML” tag in the “T” column to the left of your user-added manufacturer paragraph.

Use the following steps to view or print the “Manufacturers Listed in Project” report:
1.    Click on the File menu and select “Print.”
2.    Select a default printer.
3.    For Report to Print, select “Requirements Report.”
4.    In the next drop-down menu, select “Manufacturers Listed in Project.”
5.    Click “Preview” or “Print” to view the report.
